Why You Care - high in EPA and DHA, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, mood and cognitive enhancer*

Few dietary supplements have been more studied and understood to be beneficial to human health than Omega 3 fatty acids.

Daily supplementation with EPA and DHA, the hero fatty acids in Omega 3, decreases all-cause mortality in individuals with known heart disease, and proffers cardioprotective benefits to almost everyone else. EPA and DHA also enhances cognitive function in those with mild cognitive impairment.*

Suggested Use

Suggested Use: Take 1 gelcap twice a day, or as directed by your healthcare professional.

Research Notes

"The omega-3 PUFA EPA and DHA are important throughout life and are a dietary necessity found predominantly in fish and fish-oil supplements. The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are essential for proper fetal development, and supplementation during pregnancy has also been linked to decreased immune responses in infants including decreased incidence of allergies in infants. Omega-3 fatty acid consumption has been associated with improved cardiovascular function in terms of anti-inflammatory properties, PAD, reduced major coronary events, and improved anti-platelet effects in the face of aspirin resistance or clopidogrel hyporesponsiveness. Patients with AD have been shown to be deficient in DHA, and supplementing them with EPA+DHA not only reverses this deficiency, but may also improve cognitive functioning in patients with very mild AD. With increasing rates of pediatric allergies, cardiovascular disease, and AD in the United States, EPA and DHA may be a safe and inexpensive link to a healthier life."

"Therapy with low-dose omega-3 fatty acids significantly reduces the incidence of sudden death caused by cardiac arrhythmias and all-cause mortality in patients with known coronary heart disease. Results of individual clinical trials as well as meta-analyses of omega-3 fatty acids impact on cardiovascular outcomes provide enough evidence to encourage intake of EPA/DHA daily in primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, respectively. The target EPA + DHA consumption should be at least 500 mg/day for individuals without underlying overt cardiovascular disease and at least 800-1.000 mg/day for individuals with known coronary heart disease and heart failure."

Improper Use Can Be Bad For Your Health

Using supplements improperly can be harmful. Taking a combination of supplements, using these products together with medicine, or substituting them in place of prescribed medicines could lead to harmful, even life-threatening, results.

Pre and Post Surgery Caution

Some supplements can have unwanted effects before, during, or after surgery. For example, bleeding is a potential side effect risk of garlic, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, and Vitamin E. In addition, kava and valerian act as sedatives and can increase the effects of anesthetics and other medications used during surgery. Before surgery, you should inform your health care professional about all the supplements you use.

Not intended to treat, diagnose, cure, or alleviate . . .

Dietary supplements are not intended to treat, diagnose, cure, or alleviate the effects of diseases. They cannot completely prevent diseases, as some vaccines can. However, some supplements are useful in reducing the risk of certain diseases and are authorized to make label claims about these uses. For example, folic acid supplements may make a claim about reducing the risk of birth defects of the brain and spinal cord.
